Cubicle Duplex by Anjali Mulcock

after Jericho Brown

bathroom stalls     are an invented loneliness –

a hiding        space     made into a world

memory is hiding       a world of its own:

watching you    bleed      into the toilet bowl

watch you bawling    your anger      bleeding

childhood lies       a shining ivory corpse

childhood loves shining its        ivory corpse

at the start     there are only       yawning corners

no longer at the start        are you cornered?

singing of discarded     paper moons

mooning over the    poet’s discarded      song

it travels the string  between     red      solo    cups

mouth to ear        cup that solitary     red line

love is invented        then stalls        to loneliness
